һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳Society in Wales

һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳Society has its roots in Wales. It was in Wales that Mary Jones made her famous walk to buy a һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳in her own language – Welsh – and her determination to own a һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳she could read for herself inspired Revd Thomas Charles and others to establish the British and Foreign һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳Society in 1804.

Today we are still working to bring the һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳to life for both the Welsh-speaking and English-speaking populations in Wales. We are the main publisher of the һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳in Welsh, we have an active Welsh-speaking and English-speaking team, and our visitor centre  in Llanycil, Bala, is making the story of Mary Jones, Thomas Charles, and һƷ̽»¨ÂÛ̳Society known to a new generation of tourists, and school groups.
